Waste, pollution and sustainability do not only relate to goods or resources. These issues could also be transposed to the field of information and television, as the most successful mass media.
There is nothing new in debating about television, logic of images and their ambiguities: familiarity/spectacle, credible/incredible, visible/invisible, said/unsaid, shown/hidden, etc.
Again, there is nothing new in acknowledging that any promotional material may contribute to our personal and collective tangible decisions.
Therefore viewers should be advised about the real ecological and intellectual impact of programs and commercials. The current classification of Code of Practices, monitoring television programs, could include two new criteria:
EP (level of Environmental Pollution)
IP (level of Intellectual Pollution)
Levels would go from 0 (safe) to 5 (highly toxic).
The "EP/IP committee" assessing the information would be made up of independent thinkers –i.e. philosophers, sociologists, anthropologists, scientists, architects- able to provide critical judgment and a sustainable perspective to the viewers.
